About The Christmas Cycle

First Christmas Tree2.jpg

Holy Christmas: The Christmas Cycle is a ceremonial performance piece comprised of seven stories.  One is told each year close to the date on which it takes place, and then the Cycle begins again.  Created out of Ms. Fraser’s desire to enter into the rich opportunity of the Christmas season through a deep and soulful relationship with the imagery of Christmas and the natural world, The Christmas Cycle has been continuously performed since 1982 in various churches and performance spaces in Vermont and New York City.  A pre-talk is part of each performance and describes the images and insights Ms. Fraser has developed about the relationship of the ceremony of Christmas to the cycle of the natural year in the Northern Hemisphere when the Earth is dreaming. This juxtaposition of image and seasonal support results in a rich opportunity for interior growth and a deepening connection to nature. The stories have been created through research, interviews with elders of different churches, and personal study with the intention of offering an expanded, enriched experience of the holiday.
